A chance to explore various feminist discourses on lap dancing, through receiving, learning and performing a lap dance.

Project summary:
As a feminist, a lesbian, a passionate queer, a hairy woman and the younger sister of a lap-dancing-porn-star-feminist, Rosana Cade finds her views on female sexuality and the sex industry constantly conflicting. Her sister, Amy, is passionate that the sex industry could be a positive place for sexual exploration and female liberation, but that in order to reach this ideal, many views about and within the sex industry must shift.

Rosana would like to invite you to this workshop for a chance to explore various feminist discourses around lap dancing with her and her sister. During the three-day workshop we will hear from two feminists with opposing views on the subject, go to a lap dancing club and receive a lap dance, and learn and perform a lap dance. This will be a unique chance to thoroughly investigate different ideas about this sexual performance, through intense discussions and experiences in an honest and open environment.

Please email Rosana_cade@hotmail.com (cc’d to diy@thisisliveart.co.uk) by Sunday 9 June with some information about your arts practice, why you are interested in this workshop, and what your views on lap dancing are at present. This workshop is open to artists at all stages of their careers, and particularly welcomes applications from artists who explore gender and sexuality within their work, although this is not exclusive.

Please note that participants will be asked to contribute £10 towards the costs involved with this project.

The artist:
Rosana Cade is an artist based in Glasgow whose solo work and research is routed in a queer discourse. She works with a range of people to create experiential performances that challenge perceptions of different sexualities and celebrate diversity. Rosana received the Athena Award via New Moves International for ‘Walking:Holding’ in 2011, which went on to be selected for the Spill National Showcase, and has been shown in various locations across the UK and Ireland. In the past year she has also shown work at Arches Live, Glasgay!, Merchant City Festival Glasgow, Edinburgh Fringe and Behaviour. Rosana is a co-founder of //BUZZCUT//, a collaboration between two artists in Glasgow dedicated to creating exciting new events for artists and audiences to experiment with live performance.
