MIGRANTS MAKE CULTURE: Together against the Hostile Environment – LADA Bibliotheque

Keep it Complex and Migrants in Culture will host an Activation Day for migrants, people of colour and allies working in the cultural sector, on Saturday 18 January at Raven Row (London). The day aims to focus collective imagination, intelligence and energies on building a cultural sector that is open and accountable to migrants, people of colour and others impacted by unjust immigration policies. Migrants in Culture and Keep it Complex want to connect and build a movement able to resist the government’s Hostile Environment Policy, and to work towards a cultural sector for us all to thrive.

The activation day will feature contributions from United Voices of the World, Migrants Organise, Unis Resist Border Controls, Asia-Art-Activism, Counterpoints Arts, performingborders, Foreign Actions Production, and Shubbak Roundtable, along with workshops and interventions by artist and author Season Butler and NEON’s movement builders.

LADA is delighted to support this vital initiative through providing a bibliotheque of books, pamphlets and publications on questions of migration and migrants, culture, activism and organising, which bring together  art activism and organising, and issues of social justice at the intersection of race and migration. The bibliotheque will be placed in a dedicated quiet area and remain accessible throughout the activation day.

About Migrants in Culture

We are migrant cultural workers.

We organise for justice in the Hostile Environment

We are a support network and action group that holds the cultural sector accountable to migrants, citizens of colour and all other people being impacted by the immigration regime, in our workplaces and neighbourhoods.

We live, work and pay taxes in the UK, but have no political representation. We work in economically and legally precarious workplaces, where we are invisible or hypervisible. We refuse to be tokens of internationalism or ‘diversity’ without a voice in our sector.

Together we use our skills and resources to change the way the cultural sector operates.

We are migrants in culture.
