As part of a series of new developments for the Library of Performing Rights (LPR), we instigated Library of Performing Rights Open events in 2018.
Please join us for the 2019 LPR Open with Dr Duckie – aka Ben Walters – in a public explanation ünt examination of his just-completed PhD with Queen Mary University of London on Duckie in the Community.
Dr Duckie’s Homemade Mutant Hope Machines is about the neoliberal wobble, the technology of queer fun, and doing family differently. It’s about the power of homemade mutant hope machines – ways of thinking, feeling and acting that build better worlds – right here, right now – one day, one show, one dance at a time.
It’s based on findings from Duckie’s community-centric projects – like The Posh Club, The Slaughterhouse Club, Duckie Homosexualist Summer School, Duckie Family and ‘vintage clubbing’ events – plus Ben’s theories around reproductive queer futurity and other brainy stuff.
Artist, activist and LADA Patron Lois Weaver will respond to Ben’s presentation and lead an open discussion.
This is an event for grassroots theatricals, utopian grafters, beauty-skool drop-ins, clever cunts, Claires in the communities, bookish lesbians, sexy scholars, posh people and desperate folk who take about twelve years to finish their PhD.
Written and delivered by Ben Walters. Based on doctoral research carried out by Ben at Queen Mary University of London and supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Produced by Simon Casson and Dicky Eton for Duckie, supported by Arts Council England.
