Assembly #2: Collectively imagining new contexts for performance art teaching and learning
Assembly #2 brought together artists from the UK, Spain, Singapore and the Republic of Ireland for a two-week long intensive residency-cum-workshop in Provence, France. Entirely self-directed, the gathering was an opportunity to collectively imagine and enact new, non-hierarchical pedagogical models for the teaching and learning of performance art. Conceived in response to the experiences of students within the heavily marketised, neoliberal UK higher education system, Assembly #2 sought to build upon the work of the previous year’s gathering (Assembly #1).
In this event at the Live Art Development Agency, co-facilitators Alicia Radage and Jasper Llewellyn will present the findings from the workshop, framing it within broader conversations around the neoliberalisation of higher education and the teaching of performance art. One of the invited artists, Léann Herlihy, will also reflect upon her experience of Assembly #2. The event will be an opportunity to reflect on Assembly #2 and consider what the next steps are for the Assembly workshop series.
