Everyone is welcome to join Unlimited alumni artist Lou Coleman for a LADA Study Room Gathering unpacking some of the wider themes emerging from the development of Lou’s new solo performance, I’ll Get a Chair, in relation to ideas of visibility/invisibility and representations of the disabled body in performance.
I’ll Get a Chair draws on personal encounters and reactions from people who ‘discover’ Lou’s diagnoses of left side hemiplegia cerebral palsy. The piece considers how we speak about, and understand, disability, and the ways in which performance can explore perceptions of the body and of the self.
The Gathering is open to artists, scholars, writers and others who are interested in ideas of visibility and invisibly, of disclosure and revelation, and of subverting expectations and representations of the body. Lou is particularly keen to engage with people who work across genres or between the disabled and non-disabled platforms.
Drinks will be served.
