Corpo-Copia will see the inaugural installation of a Brazilian version of The Library of Performing Rights in a Salon Room at CCBB. This collection of materials, which explores the relationship between performance and Human Rights, will be available for browsing, research and viewing, and includes key texts, publications and artworks which interrogate what artists can do to reflect and make sense of issues of Human Rights, and how Human Rights can shape and be reflected in artist practices.

The original Library of Performing Rights from London, held and developed by the Live Art Development Agency and Queen Mary University, will temporarily travel to Brazil whilst “librarians” activate the new Portuguese, Spanish and English language collection, digitize works, ask Brazilian-based artists to make creative-commons donations through an Open Call for Materials, and develop further collaborations and networks for the future. This new library of materials will preserve and collect politically motivated artistic practices from across Brazil, maintaining a focus on Human Rights and building a community for sharing ideas. It is anticipated that this new holding of the Library, maintained by Association Panorama, will tour Brazil and the South America’s in 2013.

A parallel programme of activities to complement the launch of the Brazilian Library of Performing Rights will include daily films, screenings, panel conversations and a Long Table Event. This programme will broadly look at the relationship between performance-based practices and Human Rights, and continue the work of the Live Art Development Agency and Lois Weaver/Queen Mary, University of London. Contributors to the activities are drawn from artists in Brazil, UK and internationally.

Corpo-Cópia: Library of Performing Rights is a collaboration between Festival Panorama and the Live Art Development Agency, produced and curated in association with Andrew Mitchelson (mitchmaker), Paula Gorini and Eduardo Bonito.

The Library of Performing Rights was originally developed by the Agency in collaboration with Lois Weaver and Queen Mary University of London for Performance Studies International 12: Performing Rights in 2006. More information about this here.
