Its Time: how Live Art is taking on the world from the front line to the bottom line
Its Time: how Live Art is taking on the world from the front line to the bottom line is a new collection of Live Art UK case studies. It’s Time responds to the recent successes of Live Art and highlights those artists, projects and initiatives which are re-politicising and re-energising our arts spaces, sharing radical works and ideas with a public who are themselves being forced to do more with less. It’s Time demonstrates that through creative resistance – of patriarchy, of white supremacy, of ableism, of corporate interest and austerity – Live Art can determine its own future, and that of the world around it.
It’s Time includes contextualising essays by Lyn Gardner and Cecilia Wee and case studies by Joon Lynn Goh on Live Art and Solidarity, Mel Evans and Hayley Newman on Live Art and Activism, Abby Butcher & David Sheppeard on Live Art Spaces and Places, Salome Wagaine on Live Art and Representation, Aaron Wright on Live Art and Artist Development, Ilana Mitchell on Live Art and Participation, Karl Taylor on Live Art and Access, Helen Cole and Salette Gressett on Live Art in a Global Context, Mary Paterson on Live Art and Thinking, and Andy Field on Live Art and Money.
It’s Time is published by Live Art Development Agency and Wunderbar on behalf of Live Art UK, 2019, and builds on In Time, the first collection of Live Art UK case studies published in 2010.
The Live Art Almanac Volume 5
The Live Art Almanac Volume 5 is a collection of ‘found’ writings about and around Live Art that were originally published, shared, sent, spread and read between January 2015 and December 2017. Selected through recommendations and an open call for submissions, Volume 5 reflects the dynamic, international contexts that Live Art and radical performance practices occupy.
Divided into three chapters – The Insiders, The Echoes and Dearly Departed – the collection begins by exploring the political, social, and artistic preoccupations of those who make, enable, engage with and write about Live Art, before considering the agency of Live Art in spaces of mainstream politics, finance and media, and those we lost in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The volume includes writings by, and about Preach R Sun, Kathy Acker, Frie Leysen, Tim Etchells, Selina Thompson, Diana Damian Martin, Cassils, Alexandrina Hemsley, Jennifer Doyle, Mel Evans, the Volksbühne, Tanja Ostojic, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Kraus, Jérôme Bel, Harvey Weinstein, Malik Nashad Sharpe, Scottee, Petr Pavlensky, Bob Flanagan, Ron Athey, Deborah Levy, Jill Soloway, Donald Trump, Tania El Khoury, Morgan Quaintance, Adrian Howells, Amelia Jones, Hester Chillingworth, Melanie Keen, Forest Fringe, jamie lewis hadley, Mary Paterson, Alastair MacLennan, Marilyn Arsem, Oleg Kulik, Doran George, Lydia Lunch, David Wojnarowicz and many more.
The Live Art Almanac Volume 5 is edited by Bojana Janković with Megan Vaughan and Lois Keidan and published by the Live Art Development Agency.
The first Live Art Almanac was published by the Live Art Development Agency in 2008, the second in 2011, the third in 2013, and the fourth in 2016. Volumes 3 and 4 were published in partnership with Oberon Books.
