DIY 8: 2011 – Call for Participants
A GPS Workshop.
THIS DIY PROJECT IS NOW FULL.
Project summary:
The workshop will take place over two days at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and consist of a balance of talks covering the theory of GPS (Global Positioning Systems), concentrating on its practical application and the work of artists in the field, with practical demonstration and exploration outside. The participating artists will have the chance to understand the limitations and qualities of the GPS as a drawing device, logging device and sensor for sound/visualisation input. They will have an idea of the whole system that makes it possible to derive location from satellites and better predict results. They will be introduced to the work of artists exploring the use of this device in a number of disciplines and they will be helped to find appropriate tools (open source where possible) to allow them to work independently with GPSs.
Dates, times and location(s):
Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September, 2011
Exact times TBC.
