DIY: 2011 – Scottee; Entertainment Value

Professional development projects BY artists FOR artists across the UK

DIY 8: 2011 – Call for Participants

Bridging the gap between academic and trash, cabaret and gallery, booze and rooibos.

THIS DIY PROJECT IS NOW FULL.

Project summary:
Entertainment Value is a two day skills sharing workshop with artists from cabaret, trash or low art practices in collaboration with live artists, academic or institution based practitioners. The workshop will be led by Scottee and result in an informal sharing of new work created over the two days. Entertainment Value will aim to bridge the gaps between academic and trash, cabaret and gallery, booze and rooibos. The workshop will focus on artistic practice (eg how a live artist creates work as distinct from a cabaret performer) and future collaboration. We will also think about how these different worlds can co exist, inhabit and create together to develop some new working relationships across the sector.

Dates:  Thursday 8 and Friday 9 September, 2011
Times:  10am – 3pm
Location: London – Camden People’s Theatre, 58-60 Hampstead Road, NW1

Nearest Tube: Warren Street

Application procedure:
Applications are welcome from a broad range of artists, including cabaret or trash practitioners, as well as live artists, academic or institution based practitioners. Applicants should send a short bio & some examples of their work (youtube, jpgs etc) to info@scottee.co.uk.
Application deadline: Friday 15 July, 2011

Artist:
Scottee is a solo performer and artistic director of performance cabaret troupe ‘Eat Your Heart Out’. He has broken limbs, been questioned by the Police and lost 100s of pairs of high heels in his determination to please and challenge his audience. His brash, clumsy and obnoxious approach to performance has left them confused, annoyed & amused. Whatever you think of Scottee – he probably won’t care.
